I like the pear idea, but I wouldn't describe it as the smell of cutting a fresh pear. There is still an incense character underneath. It works for me when I want a softer fruit fragrance, rather than something sugary.
My roommate likes fruit fragrances and I usually go for wood, so we read through the descriptions together. Pear sounded like a reasonable middle ground. We've used it while sitting at the table and talking, with the burner in a clear, heat-safe spot. It has been a nice change from always choosing the scent one of us likes best.
Pear sounded different from everything else in my incense drawer. It turns out I like having a fruity option for a longer afternoon at home.
